For the next school year here at Ward, there are going to be some changes. First off, middle schoolers are required to take Band, Orchestra, or Choir. This can either be a good thing or something that kids are going to dread for the rest of their Ward time. I, personally, wouldn’t enjoy it, but in the end, it will help. It doesn’t matter because in high school, you have to take a fine arts credit, so they are just trying to prepare you for the road ahead.
One day, you are going to have to do things that you don't like, so next year can be the year. Now enough of me, let’s hear from the kids.
“I think it’s terrible because I am limited to choices I have elective wise,” said an anonymous middle schooler who has strong opinions on this topic. “I agree that now kids are limited to the choices they have. What if one kid wanted to get an early Spanish credit, but also had to take PACE? You are just taking away more opportunities that they could have had, but didn’t have.”
“It’s like requiring to play sports, not everybody is gifted in playing musical instruments. Nobody has to do anything, that's why it is called electives, because you can choose.” commented Madison about this topic.
That is an excellent point; not everybody is gifted in the art of music. That’s why you should choose the electives that you want. I sure bet she is glad that she doesn’t have to deal with that next year because she will be in high school. Many kids like and dislike this new change made to our school, but in the end it will benefit us.
